Wilma Dummitt, 90, of Bucyrus, passed peacefully on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Orchard Park.
She was born October 31, 1933 in Lewis County, Kentucky to the late Fred and Flora (Moore) Toller. Wilma was a 1951 graduate of Lewis County High School and on January 7, 1956, married Charles R. Dummitt who preceded her in death on December 15, 2010.
Their family came to Bucyrus in 1964 and shortly thereafter, Wilma began working for John Mizick at his accounting firm. She was very good with numbers and a well-organized lady who served as a valued employee until retiring from Mizick Miller & Co. at the age of 62.
Wilma was an excellent wife, mother and grandmother who made time with family feel extra special. She kept her home neat and tidy and was an excellent cook. She spent many summer months at their place at Lake Erie, where they did a lot of boating and fishing and following retirement, they wintered for about 12 years in North Port, Florida. She and Charles enjoyed many trips to antique shops looking for oil lamps and other treasures.
Wilma will be remembered as a “go getter” and she always had to be doing something. This might be due to her love of Maxwell House coffee, which she drank by the pot. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and loved time spent with friends during their card parties. When she did relax, she was often found doing sudoku puzzles to keep her mind sharp. Wilma lived by her strong faith in the Lord and enjoyed worshipping at Kirkpatrick Church of Christ, where she was a longtime member.
She is survived by a son, Jeff Dummitt; five grandchildren, Shannon (Kenny) Herndon, Kirk (Tiffany) Wade, Kyla Kauffman, Rachel (Cory) Welch and Megan (Ryan) Miller; 11 great grandchildren, McKenna, Austin, Kevin, Kyle, Hayleigh, Maddox, Mac, Blaine, Cole, Kaison and Reagan; three great-great grandchildren, Axton, Wells, and Indy as well as two brothers, Elwood and Paul Toller.
In addition to her parents and husband, Wilma was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Dummitt; daughter, Vanessa Heinlen Schifer; daughter-in-law, Judi Dummitt; brothers, Harold and Elmer Toller and sisters, Debbie Thacker, Marjorie Cluster and Evelyn Toller.
Her family will receive friends from 11 – 12:55 pm Friday, November 24 at Wise Funeral Service, where her funeral will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Don Kelley officiating. She will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery.
If desired, donations can be made payable to Avita Hospice and will be accepted through the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on her guestbook.
