Emblem

William F. Zellner, 76, died suddenly on Sunday, May 19, 2024 in the Bucyrus Community Hospital ER.

Bill was born in Bucyrus on July 29, 1947 to the late Walter and Rosemary (Gearhart) Zellner and raised near Lykens. He attended school there and graduated from Wynford High School in 1966. As a youth, he was active on the farm and in 4-H showing cows. He began working for Swan Rubber in 1965 and served in the Army from 1967-1969. He was on a helicopter crew as a mechanic and gunner in Vietnam and earned the Bronze Star Medal and 21 Air Medal awards for his meritorious service. He returned to work for Swan from which he retired after 42 years. Bill married the former Connie Dilgard on August 15, 1970.

Bill will be remembered for his hard work and dedication to his family. He had a great sense of humor and if he didn’t remember your name, you were probably called “Sweetie.” He was an avid bowler, playing 2-3 times a week and on Tuesday and Senior Leagues with one 300 game to hang his hat on. Bill was a faithful supporter of his children’s sports from Little League to football, and really enjoyed gathering for family reunions. He could repair nearly anything and was willing to give a WAG on tasks he wasn’t as familiar with. He was a member of American Legion Post 181 and Moose Lodge 669.

Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Connie Zellner; daughter, Heather (Scott) Johns; son, Ken (Nancy) Zellner; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; his sister, Rose McPeek; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

No public services will be held per Bill’s wishes. Those who would like to make a memorial contribution are encouraged to make the gift payable to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County and give through Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus.

Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook.
