William F. Behr, 84, of Bucyrus, died Thursday, September 13, 2018 at his home.
Bill was born March 10, 1934 in Buffalo, New York to the late Floyd Willis and Alice Lund (Zimmerman) Behr. From 1951-1955, during the Korean Conflict, he served in the US Navy and was stationed on the USS Tarawa, USS Antietam, and USS Coral Sea. Shortly after his honorable discharge, Bill was introduced to Marjorie D. White whom he married, and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage until her death in 2010.
Bill worked for 31 years at General Electric in the glass plant and served as Chaplain for the Crawford County Jail for 35 years. As a chaplain, he believed if he could save one life that his time was well spent and he made every effort of winning people to Jesus. Bill read his Bible daily and knew it from front to back. He was active for many years in both the Crestline and Bucyrus Nazarene Churches and more recently was a member of Victory Rock Praise and Worship Center.
Bill found relaxation in fishing and spent many hours at the Riley Reservoir. He enjoyed time spent in his wood shop where he completed his creations and will certainly be remembered for his “clip cats” which were given as gifts to many he encountered.
He is survived by three children, Tamera (David) Lowmiller, John Behr, and Connie Baldinger; three grandchildren, Leslie (John) Cowen and their three children, Gabe, Avery and Beckett, Julie (Jerad) Seif and their son, Easton, and William Baldinger. Bill was preceded in death by his son, James R. Behr; granddaughter, Stacey Clever; and two brothers, John and Jim Behr.
He was buried in Union Cemetery, Sulphur Springs where full military rites were provided by the US Navy and American Legion Post 181 Honor Guards.
A public memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, September 23 at Victory Rock Praise and Worship Center, 1700 Fairview Rd. in Galion with Pastor Danny Akers officiating.
