Wilford E. Denzer, 86, of Memphis, Tenn. and formerly of Bucyrus, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at his residence.
He was born October 4, 1925 in Bucyrus to the late Ralph and Viola (Purkey) Denzer. Wilford was a 1943 graduate of Bucyrus High School and went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Heidelberg College and master's from the University of Wisconsin. He served in the US Army during WW II and on September 30, 1951, he married Janet E. Beller who preceded him in death in 1996 after nearly 45 years of marriage. Wilford worked as Treasurer for both Shunk Manufacturing and Farmers Citizens Bank before retirement.
Wilford was a kind and sincere gentleman who loved life and found enjoyment in everything he did. His two great loves were family and music. Wilford always enjoyed getting together with family over the holidays and when it came to music, he never left home without his clarinet or saxophone. He played for many years with the Bucyrus City Band, New Washington Community Band and the Gang Band, as well as filling in with various bands and for fellow musicians across the country. Some of his other hobbies included playing euchre or cribbage; fishing, camping and traveling and he enjoyed his cars, specifically his classic Plymouth Valiant convertible. Wilford was a member of First United Methodist Church, and volunteered with the Meals-on-Wheels program.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Ann (Dewey) Denzer of Memphis; two children, Mark Denzer and wife Betty Tom-Denzer of Upper Arlington and Eric Denzer and wife Pam of Bucyrus; one grandson, Matthew Denzer of Columbus and one brother, Robert Denzer and wife Sue of Mt. Vernon.
Wilford's family will be holding private funeral services and he will be buried in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Colonial Park United Methodist Church through the funeral home.
