Warren E. Long, 87, died Saturday, July 9, 2022 at AdventHealth Sebring Hospital in Florida after months of failing health.
He was born July 29, 1934 in Shelby, Ohio to the late Clinton and Esther (Brown) Long. After graduating from Sulphur Springs High School in 1952, Warren worked for North Electric before earning his Associate’s Degree in Radio Technology from Valparaiso (Ind.) Technical Institute in 1956. He returned to Crawford County to work for the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Communications. His friend (and future brother-in-law) Charles McCallister introduced Warren to his sister, Violet, and she eventually agreed to see him. They were married January 27, 1957 and shared 53 years of marriage until Violet’s death on July 14, 2010. Warren served in the US Army from 1957-1959 and left OSHP to work for the GE Lamp Plant as an electrician from which he retired in 1994. Warren also worked at Crum Appliance for several years and stayed busy with a lot of side projects.
There was no problem or repair more stubborn than Warren. He could think through and fix anything. He enjoyed being near water and boats. He and Violet wintered in Myrtle Beach, SC. After Violet passed, Warren moved to Florida near family. He loved conversations with his grandchildren, liked NASCAR races, and watched a lot of westerns.
Warren is survived by children, Tim (Sandy) Long, Roger (Mary) Long, Lori (Dan) Cornish, and Melissa (Dave) Rettig; grandchildren, Brandon Long, Aaron Long, Brian Long, Stephanie Cornish, Becca Rettig, Charlie Rettig, and Ben Rettig; sisters, Pauline Fabrigar, Clara Jean Donahue, and Linda (Raf) Belliard; brother, Michael (Mountie) Long; a number of cousins including Art (Kate) Long with whom he was especially close; and his friend and caretaker, Carlos Mejia.
In addition to his wife and parents, Warren was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Carm Fabrigar and Jack Donahue.
Services will take place on Tuesday, July 19 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St. in Bucyrus. Family will receive friends from 1-2:55 pm and the funeral will begin at 3:00 pm with Pastor Joe Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in Sandusky (Twp.) Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made payable to a charity of the donor’s choice and given through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared and a livestream of the funeral can be viewed from Warren’s Tribute Wall.
