W. June Kober, 82, of Bucyrus, died Saturday morning, October 27, 2012 at Carlisle House in Bucyrus.
She was born November 7, 1929 to the late Raymond and Edna (Furney) Burkhart. June was a longtime resident of Bucyrus graduating in 1947 from Bucyrus High School along with her high school sweetheart, W. Richard Kober. The very next year they were married and spent 54 wonderful years together until his death in March of 2004.
June loved her family and cared for them as a homemaker. She also worked at General Electric, Lone Pine Dairy and Carlisle School, retiring with nearly 30 years of caring for children as the school secretary. June was a pragmatic lady who had a very positive attitude toward life. She loved being with family, whether a visit with her grandchildren or a trip to watch her great-grandnephews play college football; this put a smile on June's face. There were many years of traveling to Florida where she and Dick got to watch their Detroit Tigers play spring ball, and during football season, she loved cheering on her Michigan Wolverines. When not with family, June was usually seen with her friend Mary Fox. They would converse over lunch or dinner and enjoyed going to plays and day trips together.
June was a spiritual lady who was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Bucyrus, and she also showed her humanitarian side by sponsoring children for years in other countries. She will be remembered as a loving and caring lady with a wry sense of humor.
June is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Teresa Kober of Rochester Hills, Mich.; two grandchildren, Dr. Mary-Margaret Kober of New York City and 1st Lt. Peter Nicholas Kober (USAF) Hurlburt Field, Fla. Also surviving are a nephew, Glenn (Marilyn) Achtermann; two great nephews, Robert (Faith) Achtermann and Tracey Achtermann; one great niece, Tonya Kindle, all of Bucyrus; two great-grandnephews, Joseph (Erin) Achtermann of Sandusky and Jordan Achtermann of Bucyrus; and one great-grandniece, Kya Achtermann of Crestline.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 30 at St. John's UCC with Rev. Steven E. Voelker officiating and burial will follow in Iberia Cemetery.
