W. Barclay Rohrbaugh

Barclay Rohrbaugh, 78, died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Bucyrus Community Hospital following some recent health issues.



He was born May 16, 1938 in Cleveland to the late Willard and Agnes (Rocher) Rohrbaugh and was a 1956 graduate of North Royalton High School. Barclay completed his education at Heidelberg College receiving a Bachelors of Music Education. He moved to Bucyrus where he taught band and choir at Bucyrus Schools until 1977 and gave many private lessons to students over the years. He spent the next several years working for Bucyrus Road Materials, retiring in 2005.



Barclay lived to have fun in life and a big part of that was music. He was proud to have played with the John Kennedy Orchestra for many years, utilizing his talents on the baritone, alto saxophone, and clarinet. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends at their cottage at Heidelberg Beach and always found time for his model trains. Barclay was a member of St. John’s UCC; Bucyrus Moose; VFW, American Legion 181; past trustee of Heidelberg Beach and past coordinator of the Heidelberg Northwest Ohio Alumni Chapter.



Barclay was married to Mary Lou (Rein) Efaw in 1963 and they created 23 years of memories until her death in 1986. Since Mary Lou’s death, he’s enjoyed several years of companionship with Peggy Chamlis who survives. Barclay is also survived by son, Terry (Katha) Rohrbaugh of Owensboro, Kentucky and daughter, Shari Matz of Kokomo, Indiana.



A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18 at St. John’s UCC, 120 S. Lane St., Bucyrus with Pastor Joe Platt officiating. Friends will be invited to share memories and enjoy a brief gathering in the church following the service.



In lieu of flowers, his family request that contributions be given to St. John’s UCC either through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus or at the church on the morning of the service.
