Virginia Marie Knecht, 84, of Port Clinton, formerly of Bucyrus, died on July 18, 2021 at Altercare of Bucyrus.
Virginia was born on October 31, 1936 in Bucyrus to the late Jason O. and Gladys (Wilson) Cress. She attended Bucyrus High School and then started working at Woolworth. There she met the love of her life, the late Paul F. Knecht. On May 15, 1954 they married.
Virginia had worked at many places throughout her life. She worked at Ray’s Pizza, then worked as the secretary of Bucyrus Transfer & Storage of which Paul and her father-in-law, Fred, owned. Once Fred passed, Virginia became a co-owner alongside Paul. The two retired in 1993 before moving to Port Clinton. Virginia always liked to keep busy and began working part-time at Pizza Brothers. She would work there for 10 years.
Virginia cherished any of the occasions she got to spend with her family. The family’s favorite way to spend quality time together was through camping. They camped many places throughout the years, but Virginia’s favorite location was Long Lake. Virginia and Paul would spend summers at their home in Port Clinton before they would move there permanently. They loved spending time at the lake. She also enjoyed crafts such as knitting, crocheting, and quilting and puzzles were her favorite pastimes. Occasionally, Virginia would paint the woodwork projects of Paul. She was a great cook.
Surviving Virginia are her children Ed (Kathy) Knecht, Barbara (Allan) Niedermeier, Douglas (Cindy) Knecht, Eric Knecht, Brian (Kathy) Knecht, Kevin (Christina) Knecht; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren with another on the way; and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, sisters Ionamay Tennant, Molly Cress, Dorothy Wilson, Betty Wilson, and brothers Bill, Jack, and Ronald Cress.
