Virginia Mae Schifer, 89, of Bucyrus, died Saturday, January 8, 2011 in The Inn at Orchard Park.
She was born in Nevada, Ohio August 9, 1921 to the late Fred and Helen (Swartzkopf) Sheaffer and graduated from Nevada High School in 1939.
Virginia married Richard W. Schifer on September 18, 1940. She worked at the local dime store and at GE for a few years before working with her husband on the family farm.
Later, she and Richard wintered in Florida, spent summers at Lake Erie and farmed when they were home in Crawford County. She formerly attended Good Hope Lutheran Church.
Richard survives along with their two children, Kathy (Bill) Allonas of Bucyrus and Ron (Leslie) Schifer of Marion; six grandchildren, Susan Schifer of Columbus, Rob Schifer of Dayton, Christy (Joe) Ebel of Newark, Veronica (Shawn) Hildreth of Bucyrus, John (Leslie Smith) Howard of Monnett and Jeffery (Mandy Sack) Howard of Bucyrus; seven great grandchildren, Joshua Ebel, Ashley Ebel, Mackenzie Ebel, Alexandria Howard, Briley Hildreth, Lillian Howard and Grady Howard.
Friends may call Monday evening, January 10 from 7:30-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor Bernie France officiating. A graveside committal will be held Tuesday morning in Nevada Cemetery, leaving from Wise Funeral Service at 10:40 a.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home.
Virginia's family expresses their appreciation to The Inn at Orchard Park for the dignity and patience shown to their mother and grandmother and incredible care over the past two years.
