Virginia L. Stahl, 81, of Bucyrus died Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Altercare of Bucyrus after months of failing health.
Known to most as Ginger or Ginny, she was born October 6, 1936 in Bucyrus to the late Roy “Butch” and Elva (Westcott) Traxler. She and her friend Joyce were at Aumiller Park when Ginger caught the eye of a young man from Sulphur Springs named John Stahl who was at the park with his friend Bill Campbell. She and John were married on July 26, 1953 and she graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1954.
Ginger will be remembered as a simple lady who kept a spotless house, adored her family, and was an amazing cook. When her children finished school, she worked in the cafeteria for Wynford Schools for 30 years and loved feeding her family when they gathered at her home on Saturday afternoons. Her macaroni and cheese and fruit pies were special, and the sweets and holiday treats she made earned her the nickname, “Grandma Cookie” from her grandchildren. She followed Wynford sports, especially when her children and grandchildren were playing them, and liked Cleveland teams and Ohio State as well. She also took great care of her flowers at home, enjoyed several trips to Amish country, and liked playing games with her card club. She loved to worship her Lord and was a longtime member of the former Harmony UMC and currently Scioto UMC.
Ginger is survived by her husband of 65 years, John D. Stahl; children, Brad (Chris) Stahl, Todd (Sally) Stahl, and Jennifer (Jim) Bennett; grandchildren, Kelli Stahl, David Stahl, Elizabeth (Marcus) Shirk, Sarah Stahl, Emily Stahl (Dmitry Pestrikov), Craig (Julie) Stahl, Matt (Jo) Stahl, and Jimi Bennett; 11 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother-in-law, Charles Martin; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and their husbands, Lola (Robert) Hecker and Dolly (Richard) Predmore; and sister-in-law, Jannetta Martin.
The Stahl family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Service on Friday, September 21 from 4-7 pm. Her funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 am at Scioto UMC with Pastor Dennis DeLong officiating and burial will follow in Brokensword Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the Stahls request donations be made payable to Scioto UMC or Alzheimer’s Association and given through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Ginger’s Tribute Wall.
