Verl Markley

Verl Markley, 72, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 10, 2015 after an extended illness.

He was born in Nevada, Ohio on September 24, 1942 to the late Raymond M. and Lucille E. (Walter) Markley. After graduation from Nevada High School in 1960, he joined the US Army where he was a member of the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas. After returning home in 1962, Verl worked for Markley Auto Wrecking until he was employed in July 1963 by The Timken Roller Bearing Co. from which he retired after 41 years.

He married Susan M. Wehr Kronenberger on June 25, 1977. She survives along with their daughter, Megan Markley of Toledo; stepson, Joel Eric Kronenberger of Bucyrus; brother, Fred (Wanda) Markley of Upper Sandusky; sister, Ellen Johnson of Nevada and his twin sister, Vergene (James) Stuckman of Bucyrus. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Verl was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond Dale, Walter Alvin, and James Edward Markley.

Verl enjoyed country and bluegrass music and participated in many music jams in Crawford, Richland and Morrow Counties. He also played the fiddle with the Spangler Sisters and Country Travelers Band. He was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church where he attended regularly and served as a trustee. He was also a member of Bucyrus Moose Lodge 669.

Verl’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 13 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. His funeral will be held at Woodlawn UMC on Thursday at 10:30 am with Rev. Sarah Macdonald officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens where full military rites will be given by the US Army and American Legion Post 181 Honor Guards.
