Vera Pfleiderer

Vera J. Pfleiderer, 98, of Bucyrus died Friday, September 27, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus where she had been cared for since being injured in a recent fall.

She was born in New Washington on November 23, 1914 to the late Harper Hammer and Bessie (Charlton) Hammer Fahl. She graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1933 and that summer, married Grant H. Pfleiderer who preceded her in death March 30, 1999.

Vera was a woman of faith who raised her children to love the Lord. She was a good cook, usually preparing food raised right on their farm and canning the rest. She and Grant worked very hard for everything they had and did not purchase anything, even their farm, unless they had the means to pay for it. She will be remembered most as a woman who could make anything. Vera was an excellent seamstress, making leather coats, wedding dresses and anything she was ever asked for on her favorite Necchi sewing machine. She still had yards and yards of fabric awaiting projects after moving from the farm to Orchard Park where she enjoyed living her last eight years. Grant and Vera were fortunate to visit most of the continental U.S. and some of Canada and she kept a sharp mind and her independence her entire life. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ridgeton Road where she was once active with the women of the church and circle activities and she also attended Bucyrus Nazarene Church.

Vera is survived by two children, Wayne (Laura) Pfleiderer and Janel Brause; six grandchildren, Terry (Susan) Pfleiderer, Timothy (Kay) Pfleiderer, Thomas (Nathalie) Pfleiderer, Shannon Brause, Craig Brause (fiancée Crystal Del Vecchio) and Sarah (Chad) Gillmor; eight great-grandchildren, Lilly, Grant, John and Jacob Pfleiderer, Cole Brause and Addyson, Trevor and Brynn Gillmor; and her sister, Helen Noblit.

In addition to her parents and husband of over 65 years, Vera was preceded in death by her stepfather, Ed Fahl and son-in-law, Jim Brause.

The Pfleiderer family will receive friends Tuesday, October 1 from 3-7 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus and Wednesday morning from 10-11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ridgeton Road where her funeral will begin at 11:00 with Pastors Jack Kocsis, Hans Scherner and Ray LaSalle officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, adjacent to the church.
