Veronica M. Kruse, better known as Vera, 96, of Bucyrus died peacefully on Sabbath Day, November 11, 2017 at Altercare of Bucyrus after weeks of failing health.
She was born December 14, 1920 in Worcester, Massachusetts to the late Charles and Frances (Karuzas) Taparauskas, first generation Lithuanian immigrants. After her school years, Vera worked in a shoe factory and a hotel before meeting a soldier originally from Nevada, Ohio named Thomas Kruse after his return from WW2. They were married April 15, 1944 and moved to Bucyrus where they raised their family. After Thomas’ death in 1975, Vera began working. She was a Site Manager in New Washington and Crestline for the Area Agency on Aging for 14 years and worked in the pantry of the Salvation Army for seven years.
Vera was an avid reader and dedicated member of the former Worldwide Church of God. She enjoyed fellowship and travel with her church family and spending time visiting or playing cards at the Council on Aging. She was outspoken with sincere convictions and loved her family very much. She was always up for a good game of euchre and listened to polka and Lawrence Welk.
Vera is survived by two sons, Karl (Sherry) Kruse and Edwin (Deloris) Kruse, both of Bucyrus; nine grandchildren, Edwin Kruse, Susan Dockery, Pam (Joe) Tirado, Tim (Pat) Kruse, Phillip Kruse, Jason (Katie) Kruse, Annie Kruse (Ben Israel), Kelsey Kruse, and Kevin Kruse; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Tom (Linda) Kruse and Richard Kruse; two brothers, Charlie and Vincie Taparauskas; and her sister, Ann Pantos.
Vera’s funeral will be held at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus on Wednesday, November 15 at 2:00 pm with Pastor John Peterson officiating. Her family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-1:55. Burial will follow in Caledonia Cemetery.
Those wishing to make memorial donations in lieu of flowers are encouraged to give to the Crawford County Council Aging through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Vera’s Tribute Wall.
