Ty Robert Long, 62, of Bucyrus, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Marion General Hospital following a three year battle with cancer.
Ty was born August 26, 1960 in Bucyrus to the late Robert E. and Beverley Y. (Heath) Long and was a 1978 graduate of Bucyrus High School. Soon afterwards, he met Wanda C. Groves whom he married on May 18, 1985. Ty spent 28 years working in computer aided design until his employer closed the business. Afterward Ty, along with a few other employees, purchased equipment and formed Specification Technologies, LLC in Bucyrus, a metal fabrication business responsible for countless metal creations, including decorative trash bins in downtown Bucyrus. He proudly operated this business for 17 years until his health forced him to retire.
Ty’s mind was mechanically driven, and his gears were always turning. Whenever something broke, he simply rebuilt it, usually improving on the original. He also loved cooking for his family and friends, so instead of buying a grill he built one, and they shared much food and fellowship over the years.
Ty certainly put in many hours at work, but he also enjoyed his recreation time. He loved watching his daughters’ afterschool events and his family practically spent every weekend during the summer at their trailer at Lake Erie, where he liked perch fishing and socializing with others. For years, he enjoyed bowling in the Thursday night league; he qualified for many Bill Rahm Tournaments and even rolled a few perfect games. Golf was another of Ty’s favorite sports. In addition to playing in the Moose league and their annual scramble with his dad and brother, Ty cherished time spent with friends on their annual Spring golf trip to West Virginia. He was into classic motorcycles and cars, especially his 1965 Ford Galaxy Convertible and had a soft spot in his heart for the various dogs his family cared for over the years.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, as well as both the Bucyrus Moose Lodge and the AmVets.
Ty is survived by his wife of 38 years, Wanda; daughters, Kendra (Allen) Dornbirer and Kelsie (Eric) Kocher; grandchildren, Warren, Roger, June, Jack, and George Dornbirer and Ray and Evan Kocher; brother, Mitch (Sandy) Long; along with several close friends.
Memorial calling hours will be held from 4-7 pm Friday, June 16 at Wise Funeral Service, where his memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday with Pastor Mike Greenler officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery Columbarium.
If desired, contributions can be made payable to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County and these gifts will be accepted through the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy and online memories are encouraged to be shared on his Tribute Wall.
