Troy Devin Shutler, 55, of Liberty Township, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 16, 2024, in the presence of his wife and closest friends.
Troy was born in Findlay, Ohio, on February 25, 1969, the eldest son of Larry E. and Sheila M. (Oscar) Shutler. He spent most of his youth in Lima, where he attended Lima Shawnee Schools from grade 2 through his sophomore year of high school. His family then moved to Bucyrus, where Troy played basketball and excelled in football for the Bucyrus Redmen. He was a 1987 graduate of Bucyrus High School and went on to play football as well as graduate from Capital University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. While at Capital, Troy gained many lifelong friendships through his membership in the Kappa Iota Lambda fraternity.
He worked for about 18 years as a Career Counselor with NC State College before taking an HR position with Propharma in Cincinnati. He was currently in Human Resources for Cleveland Cliffs and thoroughly enjoyed their team of employees.
Troy was happiest being outdoors and some of his favorite hobbies consisted of golfing with friends, fishing with his sons, hiking, and walking his dogs, Bella and Lemon, which occurred multiple times each day. Despite his enjoyment of simplicity and staying home with family and close friends, Troy was known to travel with his wife, Kim, to numerous destinations. Whether it was California to partake in yoga and meditation with his son, or the East coast to see his son, stepson, and grandchildren, he was always on the move. Taking weekend camping trips or extended stays to Hawaii with his wife became a crucial priority in his life. His acts of kindness and dedication quickly characterized his selfless actions putting everyone but himself first.
Troy had the personality of being a joyful and spirited man. Having no enemies, he was a strong space holder, always listening and allowing others to voice their opinion. Troy had a charismatic temperament that would spread to all those he crossed paths with. He provided great amounts of happiness to all family and friends and will be missed by many.
In addition to his parents, Larry and Sheila, Troy is survived by his wife of 15 years, Kimberly Shutler; sons, Garrett (Alexis) Shutler, Austin Shutler, and Brandon (Alexis) Shutler; stepchildren, Nathan (Victoria) Blackburn and Briana (Brandon Ramsey) Blackburn; grandchildren, who he adored, Khyran, Keenan, Olivia, Laylyn, Zoelle, Kasien, and a soon to be seventh, Zenyla; brothers, Darren (Melissa) Shutler and Chad (Wendy) Shutler; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends, all of which provided a valuable impact on his life.
Troy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Edith Shutler and Frank and Kathryn Oscar and his father and mother-in-law, Richard and Mary Lynch.
Calling hours will be held from 5-8 pm Friday, November 22 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus. His funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, at Good Hope Lutheran Church, 129 W. Charles St Bucyrus with Pastor Tanyce Addison officiating. Troy would be humbled for anyone who took the time to attend his services, and he’d want you to dress as casually as you wish. Your presence is what matters the most.
Donations in his memory can be given to a charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted through the funeral home. Online memories and expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on his guestbook.
