Anthony P. Springman, 81, died Friday, November 27, 2020 at Bucyrus Community Hospital after two weeks of illness.
Tony was born October 29, 1939 in Loudon Twp., Illinois, the first child of the late George G. and Pauline E. (Storm) Springman. After graduating from Brownstown High School in 1958, he served in the US Marine Corps and returned to central Illinois to work in the oil fields. He transferred to Ohio and after leaving the oil industry, he worked for Tecumseh and later joined The Timken Co. in Bucyrus from which he retired. Tony was married to Della F. Springman from 1966 until her death in 1995. Mutual friends introduced him to Patricia (Hoepf) Tate and they were married in 1999, sharing 21 years of family, laughter, travel, and companionship.
Tony will best be remembered for his humor, devotion, and generous spirit. He would do anything for someone in need and loved supporting the efforts of those who did the same. He looked forward to morning coffee from UDF, Bingo every Thursday, and helping friends and family with their projects. At home, he took meticulous care of his yard and cars and he and Patty enjoyed countless card games and solving jigsaw puzzles. They took several cruises and trips with Tony’s favorite destinations in the western United States. Over the years, he enjoyed snowmobiling and golf and he always had a fondness for gun collecting and classic cars. He was a history buff, avid reader, and loved following the Indians and Buckeyes. Tony was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, American Legion Post 181, Moose Lodge 669, and was formerly associated with the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife Patty; daughter, Paula Springman; stepchildren, Meredith (Walter) Malone, Kim Gulling, Kyle (Missy) Tate, and Shannon Tate; grandchildren, Andrew (Sarah) Malone, Brian (Wendy) Malone, Nicole (Tyler) Madeker, Cody Gulling, Justine (Brandon) Hill, Dustin (Emely) Tate, Skyler Tate, and Tony’s “little buddy” Jaxon Tate; great grandchildren, Riley, Kellen, Harper, Braxton, Collin, Lacey, Austin, and two expected; brother, William (Betty) Springman; sisters, Eleanor (Eldon) Hammond and Paula (Gary) Anderson; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Tony’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 1 from 5-7 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where masks are to be worn. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest privately in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by the USMC Honor Guard and Bucyrus Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made payable to St. Francis Soup Kitchen or Bucyrus Salvation Army and given through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Tony's Tribute Wall.
