Alvin Todd Burns, 60, of Galion, died Sunday, November 6, 2016 at his residence, where he was surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 4, 1956 in Champaign, Illinois to the late Riley R. and Alice P. (Eastwood) Burns. Todd spent his early years in Champaign before his family moved to Portland, Oregon, where in 1974 he graduated from David Douglas High School. Shortly thereafter, Todd was introduced to Larinda C. “Rindee” (Horst) and they married on October 19, 1978. He worked as a self-employed painter and his attention to detail was evident in his completed work. Their family moved back east to be closer to family and they eventually called Marion home. Todd continued painting independently before hiring in at Mahon Painting in Marion where he continued his passion until his health no longer permitted.
Everything Todd did was out of love for his family, especially his grandkids who were his pride and joy. In addition to painting, he enjoyed woodworking and working in his vegetable garden. There were many shelves and benches made for his daughters and his family loved the peppers and tomatoes from his garden. Todd and Rindee always maintained a clean and well organized home and he always found time to keep the family vehicles clean and detailed in addition to spending time with his dogs who were special to him. Todd had a great sense of humor and he “fit in” with anyone he came in contact with. He most recently attended church at Unity Free Will Baptist Church in Galion.
He is survived by Rindee, his best friend and wife of 38 years; two daughters, Carol (Michael, Jr.) Montgomery of Crestline and Amber (Drew) Herron of Lexington; two grandchildren, Michael Montgomery, III and Ethan Drew Herron; four brothers, Gary Burns, Ted Burns, Rick Burns, and Steve (Sara) Burns as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Todd was preceded in death by seven siblings, Elaine Burns, Ira Burns, Sharon Eighner, Riley Burns, Jr., James Burns, Carol Kilgore, and Roy Burns.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12 at Unity Free Will Baptist Church, 288 Pershing Ave., Galion, Ohio 44833. Friends are also invited to attend a benefit being held from 4-11 p.m. Saturday, November 26 at the American Legion Post 243 in Galion.
Arrangements were handled by the staff of Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820.
