Thomas E. Harley

Thomas E. Harley, 71, of Nevada died Sunday evening, February 13, 2022 at Bucyrus Community Hospital from complications of mesothelioma.



He was born July 18, 1950 in Shelby to the late Robert Sr. and Sara (Stiteler) Harley and raised in Sulphur Springs. He attended Col. Crawford High School until enlisting in the US Navy in 1968. He served aboard four ships and spent time in 22 countries before his honorable discharge in 1972. He worked a few years for Ohio Crane before joining Columbia Gas as an inspector from 1975-2000. After retirement, he worked part time for Ferrel Gas, Walton Agri-Services, and especially enjoyed driving semi for a local farmer at harvest. He married Susan G. Dishon on June 29, 1974.



Tom had a lot of hobbies over his life, most of which he used while caring for his home. He especially cherished time and meals spent with his wife and family and enjoyed gathering with old friends at McDonald’s for coffee.



Tom is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sue Harley; daughter, Karen (Joshua) Spore and their daughters, Gillian and Tessa; daughter, Sharon Saam and her sons, Coy (Tanna Cross) and Brock; brothers, James (Carolyn) Harley and Richard (Linda) Harley; sister-in-law, Carol Harley; many nieces and nephews; and a number of cherished lifelong friends.



In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Jr., David, and John Harley.



Services will be held at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. The Harley family will receive friends on Thursday, February 17 from 4-8 pm and his memorial service will be held on Friday at 11:00 am with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery.



Rather than sending flowers, Tom urged those reading this to remember him by cherishing your family and enjoying a dinner out together just as he did over his lifetime.
