Terry Lee Roe, Sr., 67, of North Robinson, was welcomed at the Gates of Heaven while resting at home Monday evening, April 28, 2014, near his loving family.
He was born July 2, 1946 in Bucyrus to Wanda (Harding) and the late Paul C. Roe, Sr. Terry went to North Robinson Schools until the consolidation of Col. Crawford. He played football and was a thrower in track & field for the Eagles and graduated in 1964. His junior year, Terry convinced a beautiful cheerleader he had his eye on, Janina Beattie, to go to the prom, and so began a 51 year relationship. Terry and Janina were married June 24, 1965. In October of that year, he was hired at The Timken Co. for which he worked 40 years and 3 months, retiring from the Dept. 13 storeroom.
Terry will be remembered as a godly family man and hard worker with a great sense of humor. He was a gifted woodworker, creating countless projects in homes and businesses throughout the area. He was always doing something, but never too much to not take time to support his kids and grandkids at every school and sporting event he could attend. Terry served as Sandusky Twp. Trustee for a number of years and donated over 30 gallons of blood to the Red Cross over his life.
Terry and Janina’s lives were changed for good in 1981 when they accepted Christ as their Savior. Janina was saved in a revival meeting and Terry was saved at Beulah Beach camp that summer. After Terry’s conversion, he became very active in the Bucyrus First Alliance Church, serving as Elder, Sunday School teacher, and discipling and mentoring a number of new Christians. Terry was even-tempered, patient and “prayed for everybody.” Since his cancer diagnosis, he continued to pray and minister to everyone he came in contact with, journaling and thanking Jesus for every day he had on earth. Always a giving person, Terry continues to give, donating his body to The Ohio State University School of Medicine and praying his gift will save the lives of others through the advancement of medicine.
Terry is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Janina; mother, Wanda Roe; four children, Terry Jr. (Susie) Roe, Chris (Teresa) Roe, Lisa (Nathan) Fannin and Kathy (Dave) Stone. “Poppie” is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Karyn Roe, Kevyn (Kara) Roe, Kalyn (Devontt) Holley, Sarah Roe, Joshua Roe, Nicolas Roe, Ashley (Courtney) Hall, Nathan Vent, Aden Spence, Nathan Fannin, Stephen Fannin, Schalena (Nick) Robinson, Kristina Stone, Kelsey Redden and Haley Oberlander; three great grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew and Ashiya; sister, Connie (Keith) Adams; aunt, Belle Shumaker; nephews, Rick (Amy) Roe and Kyle (Ashley) Adams; niece, Sheila Sinnes; special cousin, Becky Jean Forbes and a number of other nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his father, Terry was preceded in death by his brother, Paul C. Roe, Jr.
Family and friends will celebrate Terry’s life and heavenly journey on Saturday, May 3 at 11:00 a.m. at First Alliance Church, 1959 Hopley Ave., Bucyrus with Pastor Bill Strader officiating. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers are encouraged to be given to the Great Commission Fund (World Missions) or Gideons through Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus.
