Sylvia J. Wingert

Sylvia J. Wingert, 82, died early Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at home after years of declining health.

She was born in Bucyrus on October 2, 1942 to the late Frank D. and Nina E. (Priebe) Lust and grew up on the family farm in Dallas Twp. After graduating from Mt. Zion High School, Sylvia began working at Ohio Mutual. She was set up on a blind date with David W. Wingert by her future brother-in-law. When he took her home, Sylvia told David, “Well, you know where I live.” David continued to call on her and they were married March 26, 1966, sharing 59 years of faith, family, travel, and laughter. She loved the Lord and her church, dedicating many years of her life to serving as the church secretary at Gospel Baptist Church.

“Sylvs,” as many referred to her, will be remembered for finding joy in absolutely everything. To know her was to love her and her giving, wonderful nature. Her Sylvisms will keep her family laughing for years to come. She and David had the opportunity to travel all over the country, with frequent visits to Wisconsin and Michigan. Trips out west and to Hawaii were also memorable. Sylvia also loved to shop, be outside gardening or walking around the pond, and she took countless photos, although many subjects of her photography wound up headless. Sylvia had a strong faith and relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ. She and David were attending Calvary Baptist Church until her care no longer allowed.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, David; children, Tim (Kelly) Wingert, Mark (Lynn) Wingert, and Jill (Ken) Rawls; grandchildren, Wesley (Ashley) Wingert, Sarah Wingert, Nathan Wingert, Maisie Wingert, Chloe Wingert, and Maxwell Rawls; her sister, Marjorie (Richard) Smith; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by granddaughter, Hope Rawls and brother, David A. Lust.

All services will be held on Friday, April 11 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Family will receive friends from 11 am – 12:55 pm and the funeral will begin at 1:00 pm with her son, Tim Wingert officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made payable to Salt & Light for Sierra Leone and given at the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of Sylvia’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
