Sylvia P. Adams, 91, walked into the presence of her Lord and Savior early Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Altercare of Bucyrus after years of failing health.
She was born September 22, 1932 in Beaver, Ohio. Sylvia was 1 of 15 children born to the late Glen and Jessie (Blevins) Mulkey and grew up near Cannonsburg, Kentucky where she attended school. Sylvia was a gifted seamstress and owned a dress and sewing shop with a friend as a teenager. She married Elmo Adams on October 21, 1950 and they made their way to Bucyrus in 1956. Along with keeping the home fires burning, Sylvia worked in the dress factory, glass factory, and cleaned homes.
Sylvia will be remembered as a selfless, quiet, and humble Christian lady who not only told, but demonstrated her love of the Lord. She shared the love of Christ with countless people and eternity will certainly be sweeter because of her influence. In addition to her gift of sewing, Sylvia grew an abundant garden and loved to can. Food was also special to Sylvia. She liked to order her meals “good and done” when asked and saw that no one left her home hungry. Her fried chicken and bread pudding were particular favorites. She also was a gifted musician, singing and playing guitar to her favorite songs. She was a woman of prayer and action who slept with a Bible under her pillow, read it often, regularly attended church, and shared her faith.
Sylvia is survived by son, Michael (Cathy) Adams; daughter, Debbie (Roger) Morton; daughter-in-law, Vickie Adams; eight grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brothers, Harold (Brenda) Mulkey and Randy Mulkey; sisters, Clarice Galion, Julie Schmidt, Dottie Stevens, and Linda Sue (Ershell) May; along with many extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Elmo Adams; son Brady Adams; grandson Eric Adams; and siblings, Darrel Mulkey, Lloyd Mulkey, Ronnie Mulkey, Donald Mulkey, Roger Mulkey, Joann Dover, and two infant siblings.
Services will be held on Wednesday, February 21 at Bucyrus Nazarene Church. Family will receive friends from 11-11:55 am and the funeral will begin at 12 Noon with Pastor Ray LaSalle officiating. The funeral can be viewed live at https://streaming.bucyrusnazarene.org/. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Galion.
Memorial donations are encouraged to be made payable to Bucyrus Nazarene Church and given through Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Memories and photos can be shared in the guestbook.
