Suzanne E. Hawkins

Suzanne E. Hawkins, 88, died peacefully Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at her home under hospice care. She had also received exemplary care from Dr. Luu and his staff, for which her family will be forever grateful.

She was born July 29, 1936 to the late Marvin and Barbara (Crall) Linn and raised on the family farm in Holmes Twp. where she forged close bonds with her sisters and cousins that lasted their entire lives. Suzanne went to Holmes-Liberty High School where she was a cheerleader and class secretary. This was also where she met Richard W. Hawkins and they were married November 16, 1957. She and Dick shared nearly 48 years of marriage when he preceded her in death on October 25, 2005.

Suzie will be remembered for being a friend to everyone and a social butterfly. Seeing her out and about, one couldn’t help but smile. After being a stay-at-home mom, Suzie found her passion when she began teaching music at Fairway School. She retired after 24 years and then was able to dote more on her grandchildren and great grandchildren, seldom missing any of their milestones. She loved family and holiday traditions including Sunday Dinners with family as far back as anyone can remember.

Suzie worshiped for most of her life at Scioto United Methodist Church where she was very active and played piano. She was currently a member of Woodlawn Methodist and often worshiped and played piano for Baseline UCC. She was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. At home, Suzie followed her favorite sports teams and cherished visits and phone calls from friends and family.

Suzie is survived by sons, Mark Hawkins, Brad (Sue) Hawkins, and Chris Hawkins (Daphney Hall); grandchildren, Erica (Tyson) Depinet, Zack (Liz) Hawkins, Chelsea Hawkins (Owen) Tavener, Allie (Seth) Chandler, and Ashton Hawkins; great grandchildren, Maura, Everly, Deker, Hadley, Emmette, Isaac, Orie, Leighton, Blaire, and one expected; sisters, Margaret (Dale) Hoyles and Lois (Jim) Heid; sister-in-law, Joyce Kennedy; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Suzie also appreciated her neighbors and friends, Paul and Veronica, for the never-ending support and love they have shown over the years.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister, Arleta Phenicie.

All services will be held on Monday, October 7 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Family will receive friends from 11am – 12:55 pm and her funeral will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Mike Ebersole officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial donations are encouraged to be made payable to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice and these gifts can be given through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of Suzie’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
