Shirley Ann Groves

Shirley Ann Groves, 81, of Bucyrus died on July 17, 2021 at Westbrook Assisted Living after a long battle with cancer.



Shirley was born in Wyandot County on March 13, 1940 to the late Dorothy P. (Walter) Young. She attended Mohawk High School and graduated in 1959. On March 31, 1961, she married the love of her life, the late Harlan W. Groves. She worked at Westinghouse for many years and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky for decades. After her husband passed away on December 26, 2009, Shirley moved to the Bucyrus area and became a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bucyrus.



Shirley loved spending time with her immediate family and close cousin, Becky Ward. She enjoyed family events and the holidays when they could be together, and Shirley liked to watch her granddaughters' softball games. When she wasn’t spending quality time with her family, Shirley was eating lunch with friends and seeing the sights wherever they traveled. She also would relax with Harlan and their friends on their Pontoon boat at Clear Fork Reservoir.

Shirley is survived by her daughters Wanda (Ty) Long, Wendy (John) Williams, Teresa (Rick) Brunty; sister Patty (Ron) Rothhaar; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years and her daughter Tamela “Tammy” (Joe) Stansbery.



A graveside service for Shirley will be held Friday, July 23, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. in Nevada Cemetery with Pastor Mike Greenler officiating. Memorial contributions can be made payable to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Donations can be given to Wise Funeral Service at 129 W.
