Scott Alan Fishpaw

Scott Alan Fishpaw, 65, of Bucyrus, died unexpectedly Saturday, September 14, 2024 at their campsite at Auburn Lake Park of a presumed heart attack.

He was born August 29, 1959 in Shelby to the late Donald “Dean” and Rose “Sharon” (Gavan) Fishpaw. His family moved to Bucyrus when he was young, and he graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1977. He went on to study horticulture at Wooster ATI and earned his associate degree. On June 30, 1979, he married Carol Ann Volk, and he began working at a plant nursery in Avon, Ohio before returning home to be closer with family. He was hired at the Crawford County Highway Dept. until retiring in 2014. He also co-owned Blideway with his brother, Mark, managing various rental properties including Northwood Estates, a mobile home park in Bucyrus, built up by his father.

God was top priority in Scott’s life. Over the years, he was active at both Good Hope Lutheran Church in Bucyrus and Crouse Memorial Lutheran Church in Tiro. Scott served on the church council, was a church treasurer, Sunday School teacher, dart ball team member and one of his greatest accomplishments was serving Crouse Memorial Lutheran Church as a SAM.

Family was a close second behind his love for God, and from early in the lives of his children, he was a hands-on dad. Scott was a Scout Leader when his sons were involved, and he coached both t-ball and little league as they played ball. He was a very dependable husband to Carol and could fix anything as well as take care of any problem around their home. When grandchildren entered the picture, Scott, or Paw Paw, as they referred to him, became a full-on grandpa. He was present at almost every event they participated in and did his best to spoil them as only he could.

He was happiest outside and spent a lot of time tending to his garden. Camping was a huge part of his life and their family traveled many miles across many states to take in what God created. In more recent years, they enjoyed friendships formed at their campsite at Auburn Lake Park. They were also fortunate to enjoy many visits to their vacation home in Silver Lake in Michigan, where they rode dune buggies on the sand, watch the sun set from the lighthouse, took in many trips to get ice cream (his favorite treat) and ended many days by sitting around a fire and enjoying life.

Some of his hobbies included fishing, boating and biking, and what really got him going, and at the same time, allowed him much relaxation was listening to sports on the radio. This mostly occurred while sitting on his back patio and he really looked forward to the Friday Night Phone Board with Davey Jones as well as listening to Tom Hamilton broadcast Indians game. Go Tribe!

Scott will be deeply missed by Carol, his wife of 45 years, children, Don (Erin) Fishpaw, Chris (Robyn) Fishpaw and Heather (Matt) Miller; grandchildren, Jeremiah, Evan, Kent, Lincoln, and Lilly; siblings, Deann (Kurt) Newman, Elizabeth “Beth” (Nick) Phillips, and Mark Fishpaw as well as many extended family members and friends who he shared life with.

Visitation for Scott will be held from 4 – 7 pm Thursday, September 19 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio. His funeral will be held at 11:00 am Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 125 S. Poplar St., Bucyrus, Ohio with Pastor Tanyce Addison officiating. He will be inurned at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery.

If desired, donations can be made payable to either Crouse Memorial Lutheran Church or Good Hope Lutheran Church. These gifts will be accepted through the funeral home or at church on day of services and expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on his guestbook.
