Sarah M. Hunt

Sarah M. Hunt, 89, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

She was born September 18, 1925 in Bucyrus to the late Charles and Wadeha (Sabback) Salhaney and was a Bucyrus High School graduate. The Salhaney family was raised in the Syrian Orthodox Church and Sarah was proud of her Syrian heritage, especially her love for cooking and family traditions.

She married Eugene L. Hunt April 6, 1957. Through their 57 years of marriage, they raised a family, enjoyed some traveling and spent countless nights dancing together. Family was Sarah’s greatest joy. She cared for them as a homemaker and cherished Saturday breakfasts, Tuesday nights spent pampering her grandchildren along with all the birthdays and holidays spent together.

Sarah never had a driver’s license but was always ready to go when someone was willing to drive. If Gene was not home to drive, she could always count on one of her close friends or her cousin Kathryn Dent, with whom she traveled through all parts of North America. Sarah also loved people watching and when shopping, she faithfully used her coupons.

She loved helping others and in addition to caring for her immediate family she enjoyed time spent helping her cousin Sam at Sabback’s when he was busy.

In addition to her husband Gene, Sarah is survived by three children, Michael (Cheryl Craft) Hunt of Marion, Kathy Hunt and Sandra (Paul) Saunders, both of Bucyrus; two grandchildren, Jennifer Hunt and Brett (Allie) Hunt, both of Columbus; two special cousins, Sam Sabback and Catherine Thabit and her granddogs, AKA “The Boys,” Frankie, Gordon and Reggie, who she spoiled with treats.

A graveside funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 29 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. John Cory officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
