Sandra Jo Schiefer, 82, of Bucyrus died Wednesday evening, September 12, 2018 in the Bucyrus Community Hospital ER after years of failing health.
She was born June 16, 1936 to the late Dorsey and Edith (Reese) Linn. She grew up on the family farm where she enjoyed being a tomboy, helping her mother, and farming with her dad. Sandy graduated from Holmes-Liberty in 1954. She studied Physical Education and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority at Ohio Wesleyan, graduating in 1958. Sandy married Allan E. Schiefer on June 30, 1956 and she worked as a teacher in area schools, both public and Christian, where she was known as “Sarge” and helped establish Wayside Christian School. She retired from Bucyrus City Schools where she taught children with special needs.
Sandy’s life was forever transformed on March 10, 1972 when she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. A true soul-winner, she has spent her life ever since sharing His love and telling others how to be saved, with countless lives having been changed because of her Christian witness and testimony.
At home, Sandy loved planting flowers, the companionship of her dog Andy, and being the place to watch Cleveland sports. She was hopeful for a Browns turnaround this year.
Sandy had an adventurous and fearless spirit. She went skydiving twice and she and Allan enjoyed a few excursions, including trips to Mexico and Europe. The family did a lot of camping in years past cottage on Lake Erie that her parents built was the most special place to enjoy the outdoors and family gatherings.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Allan E. Schiefer; son, Geoffrey (Stephanie) Schiefer; daughter, Linn (Tim) Ash; son-in-law, Scott (Anita) Harris; grandchildren, Coltan (Allyson) Schiefer, Levi Schiefer, Bethany Harris, Marianne Harris, Grace Harris, Gretchen (Seth) Keller, Nathanael Harris, David J. Ash, and Rachael Linn Ash; and brother, Gene (Jo) Linn. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Jennifer Jo Harris.
Sandy’s family will receive friends at Wayside Chapel in Bucyrus on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 2-5 pm and on Sunday from 1-1:50 pm, followed by her memorial service at 2:00 with Pastor Tim Compton officiating. A private burial will be held later in Brokensword Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made payable to Wayside Christian School and given at the church or Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Memories and photos can be shared on Sandy's Tribute Wall.
