Ruth E. Weber, 84, of Bucyrus died late Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Bucyrus Community Hospital after weeks of failing health.
She was born September 10, 1934 in Tiffin to the late Gottlob and Mary Ellen (Price) Fritz. Ruth graduated from Columbian High School in 1952 and still enjoyed getting together with classmates. In the summer of 1951, she was set up on a blind date with a young man named Ned Weber of Bettsville. He proposed just before joining the Air Force and they were married on October 12, 1952. They shared 63 years of marriage before his death on November 8, 2015.
After Ned’s discharge, they returned to Seneca County where Ned farmed with his brother. In 1961, the Weber family moved to Bucyrus where Ned operated a service station. In addition to raising her family, Ruth was the owner/operator of the Short Stop, worked at Schrier’s Cheese as a waitress and manager, Harter’s in customer service, Regis Paper Co., and finally at Waycraft as a caregiver and job coach. She remained active after retiring, never letting her physical limitations get her down, and even finished her third quilt in the past year.
She was a woman of deep faith who worshiped through prayer, Bible study, and as an active church member. Many will remember Ruth as “The Card Lady” as countless cards were sent with love for every occasion by Ruth and Ned always made sure she had plenty of stamps to mail them. While she loved a good joke, most of the laughter was heard as Ruth ruined the punchline as she tried to tell it. She enjoyed bowling when she was younger and did a lot of travelling, collecting commemorative spoons along the way for her big collection, and cheered on her Buckeyes loudly, even in last week’s Rose Bowl victory. She was a member of the former Bucyrus Eastern Star, Bucyrus United Methodist Church and the Ever-Faithful Sunday School class of the former Grace UMC.
Ruth is survived by three children, Vicky D. Weber, Gary M. Weber and wife Juliana, and Debra K. Cooper and husband Dwayne, all of Bucyrus; grandchildren, Jessica Wolff, Arron (Jen) Weber, Ryan Stauffer, Tiffany (Josh) Ginter, Dustin (Ashley) Stauffer, Becky (Jason) Honaker, all in Ohio, and Jamie (Mark) Alltop of Tennessee; great grandchildren, Savannah, Cambria, Grady, Addison, Jordyn, Alexis, Hadley, Brooklyn, Emily, Makenzie, Blaize, Cole, and Christopher (Morgan); great-great grandson, Mikel; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Tinker.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Carl Fritz, George Fritz, and Mary Thiele.
Ruth’s funeral will be held on Saturday, January 12 at 12 Noon at the Bucyrus UMC Worship Center, 227 S Walnut St., where her family will receive friends prior to the service, from 10-11:50 am. A private burial in Oakwood Cemetery will be held on a later date.
Contributions may be made payable to Bucyrus UMC and given at the church on Saturday or at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Memories and photos can be shared on Ruth’s Tribute Wall.
