Russel J. Larick

Russel James Larick, 66, of Bucyrus, died Saturday, December 13, 2014 at his home following a brief illness.

He was born February 25, 1948 in Carey, Ohio to the late Russell and Lillian (Barnett) Larick, was a 1966 Upper Sandusky High School graduate and later graduated from Tiffin University with a bachelor’s degree in business. Russ served in the US Army during Vietnam and began working at Guardian Industries in Upper Sandusky following his time in the service. He met Mary Jo Hass in the mid 1970’s. They were married in March of 1978 and she survives. Russ spent over 30 years at GE before retiring, but Russ’ greatest work passion was doing taxes for friends and family out of his home; a business he operated for 36 years.

Russ was very active in the Bratwurst Festival. He served on the festival board, was a Festival Director, Concessions Director and drove for Queen’s Travel. He proudly served as a Red Coat for OSU football games and was a member of Moose Lodge 669.

Russ was an avid golfer until his eyesight lessened and he was a true Buckeye Nut when it came to cheering on OSU sports. He also enjoyed his Cleveland Browns. Summers were spent at Sunset Springs where he will be remembered for providing his annual 4th of July fireworks for everyone at the campground. Of all his hobbies, his favorite was spending time with and doing things for his grandchildren. He truly was “The World’s Greatest Grandpa.”

In addition to Mary Jo, his wife of 37 years, Russ is survived by four children, Tony (Beth) Larick, Tanya (Lynn) Lewis, Todd (Stacy) Larick and Travis (Chad Seiber) Larick; three grandchildren, Darian Gattshall, Zak Larick and Grant Lewis; one brother, Frank (Pat) Larick; one sister, Becky Jerew and numerous nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Mike Jerew.

His family will welcome friends from 2-4 & 6-8 Tuesday, December 16 at Wise Funeral Service where his funeral will be held at 10:30 Wednesday with Certified Celebrant Mark Dettmer officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens where full military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 181 and the US Army Honor Guards.

Memorial contributions may be given to HomeCare Matters Hospice through the funeral home.
