Ruby I. Smith

Ruby I. Smith, 91, of Galion and formerly of Bucyrus, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

She was born in Bucyrus on February 20, 1920 to the late Harvey and Harriet (Keiter) Beck and attended North Robinson Schools. She married and later divorced Alex H. Miller and was also married to Thomas Moss and Thurman Smith.

Ruby's career began as a welder at Camp Millard during WWII, then Swan Rubber where she worked as a knitter, she then was at Isaly's and retired from Miracle Mart where she was a retail clerk. She was once an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Captain of the East End Block Watch and a current member of First United Methodist Church in Galion where she was in the Grow Sunday school class and Martha Circle. Ruby will be remembered as feisty and opinionated who enjoyed her flower gardening, crocheting and knitting.

She is survived by two children, Sarah Moore of Attica and Melvin Miller of Monroe, Wash.; 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Fletcher and brother, Jake (Barbara) Beck, both of Bucyrus.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Ruby was preceded in death by children, Barbara Wade, Alex R. Miller, Sr., David Miller and Leslie Miller; siblings, Wanda Fyke, Viola Dinkel, Dorothy Myers, Joe Beck, Bill Beck, Zelma Winslow, Mary Alice Ruble and Virginia Sidney.

Ruby's family will hold a private viewing and she will be buried in Oakwood Cemetery following her cremation. Contributions may be given to the family to help with expenses through Wise Funeral Service.
