Roseann P. Rice, née zurBurg, 73, of Bucyrus, died early Monday morning, May 21, 2012, at Heartland of Bucyrus.
She was born May 16, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Henry H. and Estelle L. zurBurg. Roseann graduated from the University of Michigan and dedicated her life to caring for the young and old, particularly those most in need. She spent more than twenty years teaching third grade at Carlisle Elementary School, eventually teaching the children of her early students. She also worked summers for the Galion library, a vocation she truly loved. After retirement, she spent many hours assisting shut-ins, and even as she declined, found a way to continue serving by folding bulletins for the church, something she could still do well.
Roseann lived a simple life in the most wonderful sense. Her passions were people and God. She had non-stop energy, and loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren, who saw her as incredibly fun and loving. Invariably the floor would be covered with puzzles and books after a visit. She was always there for her children, and that support continued as they encountered the challenges of adulthood and parenthood.
She believed in a "big God"; she was a person of extremely strong conviction, but deeply admired other people of conviction, whether or not their views totally aligned. Roseann was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bucyrus, Ohio. She spent many years in the roles of Elder and Deacon.
She is survived by two children, John Rice (Melody) of Avon Lake and Susan (Rice) Kent (Mickey) of Nevada; a brother, Karl zurBurg, of Zeeland, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Mary zurBurg (Henry); and several nieces and nephews. The grandchildren she so loves are Cody Kent, Zoe Kent, Kenzie Kent, Mikhaila Rice, Austin Rice, and Isaac Rice. She was preceded in death by her brother, Henry zurBurg.
Calling hours will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. Friday, May 25, at the First Presbyterian Church of Bucyrus, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at the church 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will follow the funeral in Oakwood Cemetery, Bucyrus.
