Rosalyn A. Cheek

Rosalyn A. Cheek, 72, of Columbus, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Kobacker House in Columbus.

She was born October 11, 1939 in Chatfield to the late John F. and Elsie E. (Schimpf) Schifer. Rose graduated from Chatfield High School in 1957 where she played clarinet in the band, was a member of the National Honor Society and was the top female 4-H member in Crawford County. She graduated from Grant Hospital School of Nursing and continued her education at Ohio State.

Rose worked as an ERN in the emergency department of The Ohio State University Medical Center. She was there for eight years and then spent time caring for children at Columbus (Nationwide) Children's Hospital. Rose flew home to be married to William E. Cheek while serving as a First Lieutenant in the Air Force. She was a triage nurse during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in the San Francisco Bay area.

Following her time in the service, Rose returned to Columbus where she worked as a substitute nurse and became involved in her craft business, Rosie's Dough, Inc. This "hobby," which stretched worldwide, consisted of dough art which came in pies, rolls and cookies. Her creations were sold at numerous craft shows, Longaberger Conventions, stores across the United States, including Cracker Barrel and Disney Resorts, and also in Japan. Rosie's Dough was featured in Woman's Day magazine.

Rose was a Type A, free-spirited lady who always performed top-notch work no matter what she did. Whether she was caring for people through nursing, running her dough art business or caring for her family, she always went above and beyond. She loved to travel. She and Bill reached nearly every state in America and traveled extensively in Europe. She was a member of Clinton Heights Lutheran Church in Columbus.

In addition to her loving husband of 41 years, William E. "Bill" Cheek, Rose is survived by two children, Heather Anne Sandell and husband John of Austin, Texas and William John Cheek and wife Amanda McFadden of Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren, John Wilhelm "Jack" Sandell, Nicklas Cooper Sandell and Lilian Helena Rose Sandell and two sisters, Marilyn (Eugene) Gebhardt and Carolyn (Ronald) Sand, both of Bucyrus. Rose was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Schifer.
