Ronald W. Jenney

Ronald W. Jenney, 78, of Bucyrus, fell asleep in death on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at his residence following lengthy health issues.

Ron was born November 10, 1938 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Russell and Harriett (Pratt) Jenney. His family moved to Bucyrus when he was young and “Feathers,” as he was known while attending Bucyrus High School, was an active member of the Stage Crew and enjoyed reading the morning announcements before graduating in 1956. He attended Ohio State for a short time before attending Tiffin College where he studied accounting.

On January 3, 1959 he married the love of his life, Vada M. Messerschmidt, and together they raised a family, took pride in their home and yard, and enjoyed working in their floral and vegetable gardens. Vada preceded him in death in 2012.

Ron believed in providing for his family. Some of his jobs allowed him to utilize his accounting skills, some brought him closer to his dad and brother, and some allowed his creativity to shine. Over the years, he worked for Timken, sold real-estate for Rindfuss and Nevin Kinsley Realty, Shunk Mfg., auto sales for Studer Perrin, worked with a close friend, Skip Abnett, Ondego (known as “The Sign Guy”), F&S Engraving, Stow-Away, hosted a radio interview show for Tom Moore at the radio station and even did some DJ work and delivered various newspapers for the local newsstand in Bucyrus.

Cars were Ron’s greatest passion. He was rather knowledgeable about anything built between 1939 and 1985 and he preferred Chevys and Chryslers or anything fast. He had a multitude of organized collections, with two of his favorites being diecast cars and tools. Ron enjoyed taking the family for car rides and the trips became more special when he stopped for a jelly donut or peppermint patty, two of his favorite treats.

Ron grew up Methodist but for the past 20 years has been a follower of Jehovah’s teachings. In April 2016 he was baptized, which sealed his personal relationship with Jehovah God. Ron was involved with Boy Scouts and served as a Scout Master; he served as secretary/treasurer for the Bucyrus Recreational Board; was a member of the former Piper Car Club, Junior Achievement and Jaycees.

He is survived by two children, Robert (Deb) Jenney of Findlay and Shari (Tim) Miller of Bucyrus; four grandchildren, Rachel Jenney, Rebekah Jenney, Riker Jenney, and Colin (Lauren Kaple) Miller and their children, Leah and Dawson. Ron is also survived by several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Jenney and Ruth Saffell; as well as his life-long friend, Skip Abnett. Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Donald J. Jenney.

His family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, January 22 and Monday one hour prior to the funeral which will begin at 12 Noon at Wise Funeral Service with C. David Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Donations may be given to Bardet-Biedl Syndrome Foundation or to the World Wide Work of Jehovah’s Witnesses through the funeral home.
