Ronald R. Mills, 68, of Bucyrus passed away Wednesday morning, June 6, 2012 at Altercare of Bucyrus following a lengthy battle cancer.
He was born in Bucyrus October 29, 1943, the only child of the late Arden and Betty (Young) Mills. He graduated from Mt. Zion High School in 1963 and a few years later began working in New Washington for Mansfield Brass from which he retired as an inspector after 30 years of service.
Ron was previously married to Linda Coomer of Bucyrus and is survived by their daughter, Crystal Mills and son-in-law, Robin Hildebrand, of Nevada; three stepchildren, April (Doug) Suits, Tim and Rob Mofford, all of Bucyrus; eight step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; his special friend, Arlene Slagle of Bucyrus and his grand-dog, Brutus.
Ron will be remembered as a happy, go-lucky person who was kind to everyone he met. Even after a stroke forced retirement and a move to Altercare, he made the most of it and enjoyed the activities and events put on by the staff and residents. He always had a fresh stock of Reese's Cups available and cold Mountain Dew to wash them down. When he was more healthy, Ron looked forward to bowling, Bingo, auctions, horse races at various county fairs and traveling, especially trips to the Smokey Mountains of Cherokee, N.C.. He visited Myrtle Beach, enjoyed concerts in Nashville, Branson and country music festivals and always loved having Crystal with him, imparting his love for Bingo to her along the way. Ron had a heavy heart for dogs, especially beagles, his favorite being "Lady." When at home, Ron could be heard cheering on the Cleveland Indians and his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge 669 where he worked as a clown for events, and the former Bucyrus Aerie of the Eagles. He also coached Little League a number of years ago and was once an avid league bowler.
Ron's family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 Friday, June 8 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where his funeral will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Harold Hasenauer officiating. Burial will follow in Lust Cemetery, south of Chatfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at Altercare or the Humane Society serving Crawford County through the funeral home.
