Roger S. Leuthold

Roger S. Leuthold, 94, of Bucyrus passed away Thursday morning, July 26, 2012 at his residence.

Roger was born November 26, 1917 in Bucyrus to the late Samuel and Tenna (Miller) Leuthold. He graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1935, then worked for Swan Rubber before being called to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1941-46 in the Philippines. While home on leave, he met Dorothy Ayres. They began a courtship, mostly by mail, and were married on June 30, 1946 following his return to the states.

Roger will be remembered as a loving, caring and kind man who was ready for whatever the day brought, loved his wife and enjoyed an honest day's work. He worked for Ohio Power as a groundman for over 37 years. He was often heard reminiscing that there was never a day he didn't want to go to work. While he and Dorothy did take one cross-county train trip, he couldn't wait to get home where he enjoyed taking care of his vegetable garden and lawn along with the lawns of others who needed help. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, serving as the bell ringer for 50 years and he volunteered at Bucyrus Community Hospital as well. Roger looked forward to getting together with his family, birthday club gatherings and watching Ohio State sports whenever they were playing.

In addition to his bride of 66 years, Roger is survived by one sister, Annabelle Arnal of Carmel, Calif.; 13 nieces and nephews; a number of cousins and his faithful cat, Baby. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marion and James Leuthold and sisters, Cynthia Leuthold and Myra Finocharo.

Dorothy will receive friends at Wise Funeral Service from 10 a.m.-12 Noon Tuesday, July 31. The funeral will follow, beginning at Noon, with Pastor Don Kraps officiating before proceeding to Oakwood Cemetery for burial with military honors offered by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.

Memorial donations may be made to Bucyrus U.M.C. or the Humane Society serving Crawford County.
