Roger A. Laipply

Roger Allen Laipply, 74, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, October 27, 2019 at his home in the presence of many who loved him.

Roger was born June 29, 1945 in Bucyrus to the late Virgil L. and Cora P. (McBride) Laipply. He worked at Swan Rubber for a number of years before taking a job at Timken, where he spent 36 plus years before his retirement. On December 14, 1979, he married Gloria Jean Tackett and she preceded him in death on August 24 of this year.

Roger and Gloria shared many good times throughout their 39-year marriage. There were many shopping trips looking for bargains, especially when it came to buying shoes. They both enjoyed spoiling their family during the Christmas season. She oversaw buying clothes for the grandkids and he was responsible for the toys, which meant he often found something to add to his personal collection. They traveled to many flea markets and garage sales and had hoped to become active vendors at shows. Roger enjoyed watching sports and if it involved his grandchildren, he was there. On Saturdays, he was a Buckeye football fan and on Sundays, he was a Browns fan. He loved food and was often referred to as the “condiment king,” because anything he ate was covered with mustard and Heinz ketchup. Besides his family, Roger’s other love was working on and driving cars. He owned a variety of automobiles over the years, but his favorite was his 1966 Corvette, red with a black convertible top. He bowled for many years in the Thursday night league at Suburban Lanes and he and Gloria did a lot of dancing together, often dancing their own version of the jitterbug.

He was a member of the Bucyrus Moose Lodge and the Bucyrus Shrine Club and was proud of their efforts to help young children.

He is survived by five children, Erin Fogle, Chad (Lacey) Laipply, Wendy (Dean) Nolen, Trish (Bill) Dennison, and Kolton Bayless; 12 grandchildren, Benjamin (Kim Morrow) Fogle, Ivy Laipply, Nikoli (Brittany) Fogle, Cheyenne Elkins, Kielee Nolen, Kyndal Nolen, Katie (Ryan) Taylor, Jordan (Pamela) Johnson, Jarrenn (Brent) Richardson, Wesley (Katie) Dennison, Marina Bayless, and KJ Bayless; 20 great grandchildren; one sister, Carol Gallant; as well as many extended family members.

Along with his parents and wife, Roger was preceded in death by one sister, Doris McAdams and two brothers, Robert Laipply Sr. and Wayne Laipply.

Friends may call from 4-5:55 pm Wednesday, October 30 at Wise Funeral Service, where his funeral will begin that evening at 6:00 pm with Pastor Patrick Demuth officiating. A private burial will take place in Oakland Cemetery on a later date.

Donations can be made payable to Bucyrus Shrine Club and will be accepted through the funeral home.
