Robert L. Stoneburner, better known as “Stonie,” 94, passed away at Bucyrus Community Hospital on Friday, January 5, 2018.
Stonie was born in Wyandot County on February 6, 1923 to Ira and Velma (Trautwein) Stoneburner. He was a 1941 graduate of Harpster High School. While in school, Stonie was active in many sports. He met and fell in love with a cheerleader named Margaret “June” Cochran. They were married June 1, 1946 and enjoyed 63 and a half years together until June’s passing in 2010.
Stonie worked at Swan Rubber in Bucyrus and retired in 1984. He remained active until the final week of his life, always taking care of his home and enjoying times with his family. After retirement, Stonie could be found golfing, doing yardwork, taking his daily walk to town, or relaxing in the yard. He was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, June; and his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Margie Stoneburner.
Stonie is survived by his son, Tim (Beth) Stoneburner of Bucyrus; daughter, Terri (Lisa) Byrne of Belvidere, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Tyson (Kurt) Mollenkopf, Tiffany Stoneburner, and Thomas Stoneburner all of Bucyrus; two step grandchildren, Dustin Cundiff of Bucyrus and Jordan (Britta) Cundiff of Belvidere, New Jersey; six step great grandchildren; and his dog, Caliber.
Graveside services will be held at Grand Prairie Cemetery, 4964 Brush Ridge Dr N, Marion, Ohio 43302 on Thursday, January 11 at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made payable to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County or a charity of the donor’s choice and given through Wise Funeral Service. Memories and photos can be shared on Stonie’s Tribute Wall.
