Robert “Bob” Hubble, 82, of Bucyrus died peacefully at his home Friday morning, March 11, 2016, after a long period of failing health. Bob is now with his two great loves…his Lord and his Dottie.
He was born December 31, 1933 in Concord, North Carolina to the late Gilbert P. and Cora Lee (Crabtree) Hubble. The family moved to Bucyrus when Bob was young and he attended Bucyrus schools, graduating with the class of 1951. Bob began dating Dorothy “Dottie” Clinger in high school and their future together was set. They were married on August 24, 1952, when Dottie graduated from high school and Bob had just finished his freshman year at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Upon his graduation in 1955 they went on to enjoy 62 years of devotion. Dottie preceded him in death May 22, 2015.
Bob was a man of unshakeable faith and lived out that faith in all areas of his life. He was the former president of Shunk Manufacturing Company and was so happy to visit with past employees and share their memories. After a very early retirement, Bob decided to try his hand at entrepreneurship, and in 1977 he and Dottie co-founded The Dexter Company (Bob’s middle name). They began with Bob driving around the state in his portable office, selling snow plow and grader cutting edges to government entities while Dottie worked as his right hand at her desk in their home. The company has grown into a thriving family business selling, installing, and servicing highway/municipal road equipment all over the state of Ohio.
Bob enjoyed serving in his community and beyond wherever he was needed. He was a past president of the Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce, a former board member and building fund co-chair of the Bucyrus Y.M.C.A., past vice-chairman of the Bucyrus Community Hospital Board and past president of United Way. Bob was the former chairman of the Harding Area Boy Scouts of America and was awarded The Silver Beaver. He was past president of Camp Michael, long time chairman of The Faulkner Fund and a charter member of the National Association of Presbyterian Scouters, receiving The God and Service Award. Bob was also the past national president of the Construction Equipment Division of the Farm & Industrial Equipment Institute and was an active member of The Hubbell Family Historical Society. He served the First Presbyterian Church of Bucyrus as a long time ruling Elder and studied to become a lay pastor in the Presbyterian Church. He filled pulpits as a visiting and interim pastor all over north central Ohio, including a year of service with the wonderful congregation at the Presbyterian Church in Iberia, Ohio. Bob was an avid sailor and instructor. He also enjoyed jogging and participating in two Columbus Marathons and many local races.
Bob is survived by his two children, Jan (Al) Fulton of Bucyrus and Mike (Michele) Hubble of North Canton; grandson, Ben (Britney) Hubble; and great grandchildren, Gavin, Maddie, Ethan, and Macie. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Kiess and sister-in-law, Lou Hubble; his many nieces and nephews and their children who he so treasured; his Dexter boys, Dan, Ed, Eric, Kevin, and Larry; two wonderful caregivers, Anita and Teresa; and his “adopted” family members Tasha Nickler and Dan and Barb Price.
In addition to Dottie and his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill and Ralph; sister, Jean Black; brothers-in-law, Hugh Black, Gene Kiess, Lester Clinger, and Bill Seits; and sisters-in-law, Marg Hubble and Shirley Seits.
Bob’s family will receive friends on Thursday, March 17 from 4-7 pm at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St. in Bucyrus. His funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 125 S. Poplar St., in Bucyrus with his good friend, Pastor John Cory officiating. Those wishing to make donations are asked to give to Home Care Matters (Hospice), the First Presbyterian Church, and the Crawford Park District through the funeral home. Memories are encouraged to be shared on Bob’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
