Robert "Bob" Sharrock

Robert E. Sharrock, 88, of Bucyrus died Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at his residence

He was born February 2, 1924 in Bucyrus to the late Chester "Chet" and Margaret (Truka) Sharrock. He graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1943 and entered the U.S. Army where he served as a Sergeant, Co. C, 46th Inf. Regiment, 5th Armored Division. Bob fought in four major battles during WW II from St. Lo in France to the Elbe River in Germany. After the war, he joined the Air National Guard and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.

Bob returned from the service and received his associates degree from Bliss Business College. He then completed his schooling at Andrews Barber College. With his barber career just beginning, Bob was introduced to Maureen K. Scanlon, a pretty young lady who was the daughter of a client. The two dated and on August 3, 1963 they married.

In addition to his wife of 49 years, Bob is survived by two children, Thomas L. (D. Sue) Sharrock of Galion and Kathleen M. (Anthony A.) Stefanek of Beavercreek, Ohio and five grandchildren, Robert L. Sharrock, Jennifer S. Sharrock, Anne M. Stefanek, Allison M. Stefanek and Michael A. Stefanek.

Bob was a patriotic and loyal man who believed in working hard to support his family. He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, spent 50 years as a barber and was proud to have called Bucyrus his hometown. He played trombone with the Bucyrus City Band from 1947-1995 and had played with the Galion and Columbus Legion Bands. He was a member of American Legion Post 181, a former member of the VFW, Bucyrus Lions Club, NRA and Bucyrus Memorial Society where he served as president.

Bob enjoyed watching his grandchildren in sports and band, going to Lake Erie, spending time at his barber shop conversing with his clients and, later in life, just going on the daily drive around town with Maureen. Bob was a fan of the New York Yankees and his only regret was not being able to vote for Mitt Romney in the upcoming election.

The Sharrock family will receive friends Friday, October 5 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where a Vigil Service will begin at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. John Miller as Celebrant. Committal will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites provided by U.S. Army and American Legion Post 181 Honor Guards.
