Robert “Bob” L. Martin, 85, of Bucyrus died December 29, 2020 at his home in the care of his wife.
Bob was born September 23, 1935 in Bucyrus to the late Robert E. and Hazel (Nibert) Martin. He was a 1953 graduate of Sulphur Springs High School and then joined the Ohio National Guard. On January 9, 1960 he married the love of his life Beatrice D. Sponseller. The two had known each other since their youth due to Beatrice being best friends with Bob’s sister. Bob worked for many years for Keiss Electric before serving as an electrician for the Crawford County fairgrounds for over 50 years before retiring.
Bob was a part of the NRA and would spend time watching Fox & Friends. After retirement, Bob and Beatrice spent many summers at their home on Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada. Together and with their many Canadian friends they would hunt geese and ducks as well as fish for salmon, perch, and bass. He enjoyed the companionship of the black labrador retrievers he and Beatrice had throughout the years.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, Bob is survived by his sisters Toni Martin Coakley and Terry (Bill) Martin Tebbe; brother-in-law Demont (Carol) Sponseller; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Gary Martin and beloved and respected uncle First Lieutenant Harry L. Martin.
There will be no services held per Bob’s wishes. Those wishing to make donations may make them payable to the Holmes Township Volunteer Fire Department, Pheasants Forever, or an organization of the donor’s choice. These will be accepted at Wise Funeral Service at 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories and photos can be shared on Bob’s tribute page.
