Robert "Bob" Flock

Robert G. "Bob" Flock, 86, of Bucyrus died Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Maplecrest Assisted Living where he had resided for a number of years.

He was born in Bucyrus October 31, 1924 to the late George and Minnie (Metcalf) Flock. He graduated from Bucyrus High School, began working for General Electric, and then proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served as a Radio Man, 3rd Class aboard six different merchant ships. Bob enjoyed sharing his Navy stories with friends and family, recalling with vivid detail much of the action he saw. He returned to Bucyrus in December 1945 and continued working at G.E. before retiring after 42 years of service. One of his favorite memories was meeting future president Ronald Reagan during his tour of the Bucyrus plant while working as a G.E. spokesman.

"Uncle Bob" is survived by his nephew, Bob (Susan) Flock of Bucyrus; great nieces and nephew, Cindy (John) Cornell and their daughters, Sarah & Grace, Tim (Susan) Flock and their daughters, Michelle & Nicole and Christine (Mike) Harrison and their children, Nick, Isabel & Ella and his cousin, Richard Metcalf of Bucyrus.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Harold "Pick" Flock and a sister who died in childhood.

Bob was very generous and a friend to everyone. Wallace Ave. neighbors and children knew they could always count on Bob for a cold pop or an ice cream bar. He would walk around town and stop at all the restaurants to have a conversation and coffee with other patrons. He was also an avid fisherman, often using his prized cane pole, and he was a member of VFW Post 1078.

Funeral services will be held at Wise Funeral Service Saturday, September 3 at 12 Noon with the Rev. Jack Kocsis officiating. Friends may call two hours prior, beginning at 10 a.m. and burial will follow the service in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites provided by the U.S. Navy and American Legion Post 181 Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be given to Maplecrest through the funeral home.
