Rita Jane Schnabel, 91, of Bucyrus, now resides in Glory with her Lord and Savior following her earthly death on February 7, 2021.
Rita was born June 4, 1929 in Tiffin to the late Robert and Etta (Daughenbaugh) Turner. She graduated from Columbian High School and went on to complete her real estate training through the Marion Branch of The Ohio State University.
She was formerly married to the late Arthur Schnabel and cared for the family as a homemaker. As her children grew older, Rita opted to put her real estate training to use by helping area residents with the sale or purchase of their home. She provided honest guidance to clients for 15 years before retiring. Rita enjoyed wintering in Florida and even called it home for 15 years where she was active in volunteering at church, Salvation Army, and Children Services.
Rita loved the Lord and worshiped for many years at First Baptist Church. Most recently, she enjoyed the fellowship provided through Calvary Baptist Church. She read her Bible daily and loved sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with anyone. She was active with CONTACT Crawford County and proud to have led souls to the Lord through this service.
Rita will be remembered as an organized lady who took meticulous care of her possessions. She considered herself a problem solver and often shared her advice. Rita liked crocheting and knitting as well as painting. These hobbies led to many gifts for her family and friends. She also spent hours writing and crafting nice sentiments and poetry for family as well as writing many religious articles proudly published in the Bucyrus T-F.
Rita is survived by daughters, Debra Hoffer, Jill Lazar, and Tamara (Mark) Lauthers; grandchildren, Holly (Craig) Kozinski, Kolter Kiess, Jerred (Summer) Lazar, Joshua (Michelle) Lazar, Lauren (Kyle) Teynor, Angie (Keith) Hillman, Jeremy (Amber) Lauthers, and Justin (Allisun) Lauthers; great grandchildren, Gavin, Lexie, Gabby, Lucas, Lane, Haleigh, Eva, Madison, Landon, Gunner, Layna, Kasen, Camden, Bronson, Cameron, Duke, and Shep; sisters, Maxilou Link, Sandra Harris, and Rebecca Baird; as well as her niece, Vonnie Neufeld. Rita was preceded in death by a niece, Vanessa Spradling.
Friends are invited to gather with family from 12 – 12:55 pm Thursday, February 11 at Wise Funeral Service where her funeral will begin that day at 1:00 pm with Pastor Tim Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Donations can be made payable to New Hope Community Church, Wayside Chapel or a charity of the donor’s choice and these gifts will be accepted through the funeral home. Memories are encouraged to be shared on her tribute page.
