Richard R. Cotsamire

Richard R. Cotsamire, 82, of Bucyrus died peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 25, 2018 after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.

Dick was born in Bucyrus on March 24, 1935 and graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1953. He met Barbara Ann Carver at McCall’s Restaurant and convinced her to date him. They were married April 11, 1958 and she preceded him in death on August 21, 2010.

Dick began working as a teenager for the Lone Pine Dairy and after their closure he worked a few places, including as the first maintenance man in the current City Hall. He made his way to Timken where he was known as “Bigfoot” and retired in 1997 after 24 years.

He will be remembered as the guy who could fix anything, never met a stranger, and didn’t shy away from a conversation. He built his home, repaired many things for friends and family, and loved working on projects. He built everything from a football field to an ice skating rink to a zip line and roller coaster on his property which was the place to be for his children, grandchildren, and their friends who knew Dick as “Pop Pop.” When not in his garage or workshop, Dick could be seen around town chatting with folks at restaurants, fish frys, and sporting events. He enjoyed motorcycle rides and taking the family on drives to nowhere in particular. He and Barb also loved holidays where he could wear costumes and entertain.

Dick is survived by his children, Sylvia (Robbie) See and Michael (Mary) Cotsamire, both of Bucyrus, and Roderick Cotsamire of Texas; grandchildren, Kristy (Thomas) Taylor, Rikki (Richard) James, and Mariah Cotsamire; great grandchildren, Lane, Kade, Trinity, and Hadleigh; step grandchildren, Joseph and Jenni See and Chad, Brad, Erin, and Neil Oberlander; step great grandchildren Katie and Justin; brothers, Harold E. Cotsamire of Ada and Loren (Betty) Cotsamire of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, he was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin C. and Hazel C. (Leuthold) Cotsamire and brothers, Edward C., James W., Carl F. Cotsamire.

Dick’s family will receive friends on Monday, January 29 from 4-8 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where his funeral will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am with Pastors Carl Angel and JC Church officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial donations are suggested to be made payable to Crawford County Relay for Life and given through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Dick’s Tribute Wall.
