Rebecca J. Harris, 71, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, December 12, 2020 under the care of her family and Heartland Hospice.
She was born August 3, 1949 in Bucyrus to the late Dr. Donald and Margaret “Peg” (Noble) Wenner. Becky graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1967, where she was in the band and honor society. She then studied at Wittenberg University and earned her bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University. After graduation Becky married and lived in Columbus in the 1970s while working for the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. She later returned to Bucyrus, where she gradually took on the roles of homemaker and caregiver. Throughout her life she was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and caregiver.
Becky was a truly kind and gentle person who dearly loved her family and friends. She had a sharp memory, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary, and was counted on by many for remembering important dates and appointments. She looked forward to joining her closest friends for regular Friday evening dinners and enjoyed family gatherings and vacations. A woman of faith, Becky was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bucyrus and faithfully attended their weekly Bible study. At home, she was an avid reader and enjoyed the company of her canine companions. Becky, along with her dad, was a loyal volunteer delivering Meals on Wheels and she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Becky faced the long ordeal of her illness with grace and determination, never complaining or despairing. While gravely ill herself, she was nevertheless concerned most with the daily needs of her friends and family. Right to the very end she was calling friends and arranging help for their needs.
Becky is survived by brother, Steven R. Wenner and his wife, Liliane; sister, Susan K. Calvert and her husband, Bob; nephew and nieces, Craig, Carolyn, Sara, and Yvette; and grandnephews and niece, Eli, Kai, and Lucie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Craig Wenner and his wife, Pat.
The Wenner family will hold private services and Becky will be inurned in the Columbarium at Oakwood Cemetery.
For those who wish to donate to a cause in her memory, the family suggests that contributions be made payable to one of Becky’s favorite charities: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bucyrus Salvation Army, or Operation Smile. These gifts can be sent to Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820.
Memories and photos are encouraged on Becky’s Tribute Wall.
