Raymond R. Ream, 86, died peacefully early Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Altercare of Bucyrus after two months of failing health.
The middle child of the late Harold V. and Evelyn “Ada” (Downing) Ream, Ray was born in Bucyrus on June 27, 1935. He attended Whetstone School and worked as a mechanic for the Crawford County Highway Department for 30 years. Mutual friends introduced Ray to the former Constance S. Shaffstall and they were married April 13, 1973.
Ray was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Since retirement, he could usually be found in his workshop listening to country music and tinkering on or repairing something by the warmth of his wood burning stove. He enjoyed attending sales, scrapping metal from his projects, and looking forward to visits from grandchildren. In years past, he and Connie also liked to go camping and take cruises with his voyages to Hawaii and the Panama Canal being particularly memorable.
Ray is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Constance Ream; children, Tina (Garry) Fruth, Dennis Ream, Milo Ream, and Steven Ream; stepchildren, Dr. Michelle (Larry) Fruth and Doug (Pam) Moore; several grandchildren including Ben (Sheré) Fruth, Brett (Ashley) Fruth, and Nicholas (Markie) Fruth; and great grandchildren, including Lydia, Finn, Aubrey, and Colt.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by all four siblings, Margie Shumaker, Patsy Bauer, Shirley Wilburn, and David Ream and infant stepdaughter, Stephanie Moore.
Private services will be held, and Ray will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery. Those wishing to donate in Ray’s memory are encouraged to make gifts payable to American Diabetes Association and give through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820.
Memories and photos can be shared on Ray’s Tribute Wall.
