Rachel M. Miller, 94, of Bucyrus, died on January 14, 2021 at Altercare in Bucyrus.
Rachel was born January 24, 1926 in Sycamore, Ohio to the late Aaron Jacob and Myrtle Mae (Tschanen) Young. She graduated from Holmes Liberty High School and worked as a secretary at the Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District for many years before retiring in 1991. She was active at the First Church of the Nazarene in Bucyrus as a member and was a Sunday school teacher. She rarely missed a church service. At one point Rachel was the Vice President of the Crawford County Genealogy Society. She was passionate about the Nazarene College in Mt. Vernon and would donate to support the school.
Rachel was an independent person and enjoyed solo hobbies such as reading, crafting, and gardening. She also took joy in traveling, whether it was with her travel buddies or with her family. She had visited Alaska, Hawaii, had taken a Caribbean Cruise, and would often travel with family to Florida to see her brother. The last family trip she took with family was to Wisconsin. Her family and friendships were important to her and she treasured those times spent with them. Rachel’s guiding philosophy was “if you work for something, you appreciate it more”.
Rachel is survived by her son Jerry Lee (Linda) Miller; grandchildren Jodi (Greg) Escue and Jacob (Nikki) Miller; great-grandchildren Nye Escue, Megan Escue, Liesl Escue, and Blake Miller; brother Lewis Young; and daughter-in-law Sharon Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents, sons Fred Miller and Rodney Miller, brothers Curtis Young and Luther Young, sisters-in-law Mary Young, Aileen Young, and Dorothy Young.
The Miller family will be celebrate Rachel’s life privately at Wise Funeral Service and she will be laid to rest in Nevada Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society and sent to the funeral home at 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories and photos may be shared to her tribute page.
