Rachel A. Schaaf

Rachel A. Schaaf, 93, of Bucyrus and formerly of Bellevue died Thursday morning, July 26, 2018 at Orchard Park Assisted Living where she has resided in recent years.



She was born January 13, 1925 in Lyme Twp. near Bellevue, the youngest child of the late Albert P. and Matilda A. (Schug) Boehler. Raised on the farm, she learned to be frugal and attended Lyme School. She worked for a time at Woolworth before marrying Chester A. Schaaf on July 10, 1949 and becoming a homemaker. She was a member of North Side Reading Club, Modern Homemaker’s Club, and St. John’s Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir with Chet. She also was active in Grange, 4H and the PTO. Chet preceded her in death on February 5, 1973 and she moved to Bucyrus in the 1980s to be near her daughter and family. She was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church where she was in the Hannah Circle and enjoyed her involvement with Women of the Church.



Rachel is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Chuck) Snyder of Bucyrus; six grandchildren, Jacob (Kristen) Schaaf, Amy (Tom) Drake, Chi (Ron) Lykens, Christene (Greg) Johnson, Charlie (Aaron) Britt, and Tom Snyder; 16 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews.



In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Paul Schaaf; brother, Henry Boehler; and sisters, Katharine Faris, Marguerite Ruess, and Florence McKenzie.



Funeral services for Rachel will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, July 30 at Good Hope Lutheran Church, 129 W. Charles St., Bucyrus with Gene Luidhardt, SAM, officiating. Family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 10-11:50 am. Burial will take place in Attica Cemetery Monday at 2:30 pm.
