Pauline Zarcone, 88, of Bucyrus, died Monday, April 20, 2015 at Altercare of Bucyrus.
She was born September 3, 1926 in Cherokee County, Alabama to the late Homer and Ethel (Chesnut) Payne. Pauline grew up and graduated high school while living in Alabama and the summer following graduation, she came to Bucyrus to visit her aunt. While here, she met James E. Zarcone and a short time later, on March 17, 1945 they were married.
Pauline, cared for her family as a homemaker and also spent 27 years at North Electric in Galion before retiring at the age of 62. Like many women of that era, Pauline loved to sew, crochet, work in her flower gardens, cook, read and worry about her children. She enjoyed her weekly routine of having her hair done on Thursday saw to it that her children went to the movies on Saturday so she could give her home a deep cleaning and Sundays were set aside for church, a family favorite, spaghetti dinner and a drive around the area to end the day.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where for many years she was active on a weekly basis; Bucyrus Women of the Moose, Chapter 741 where she held every chair and was very involved; life member of VFW Post 1078 women’s auxiliary and a former member of a local mothers club.
Pauline enjoyed traveling and one of her last family trips before Jim died was a road trip that covered 18 states, consisting of 8000 miles and lasting weeks. She also had the privilege of going on several cruises with a longtime family friend, Dori Candel. She collected Emmett Kelly Clown figurines and loved having her grandchildren around.
She is survived by her children, Sandra Arnold, Sam (Claire) Zarcone, Tom Zarcone, Paul Zarcone and Kathy (Randy) Scott all of Bucyrus; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Robert (Jean) Payne and sister, Barbara Faye Marshalek both of Georgia and two sisters-in-law, Bev Payne of Crestline and Grace Payne of Georgia.
In addition to her parents, and husband, Pauline was preceded in death by her brothers, Jerry, Clifford, Billy and Donald Payne; sister, Linda Amos and daughter-in-law, Frances Zarcone.
Friends are invited to visit with her family from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm Thursday, April 23 at Wise Funeral Service. The Women of the Moose will hold a service at 1:15. Funeral Mass will follow at 2:00 pm that day at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. John Miller as Celebrant. Burial will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
