Pauline Truka

Pauline Truka, 85, a resident of Carlisle House in Bucyrus, died peacefully late Wednesday morning, March 26, 2014 at Heartland of Bucyrus where she was being cared for after a recent illness.

She was born October 22, 1928 in Galion to the late Frederick and Mattie (Garverick) Drouth. She graduated from Galion High School in 1946. She began dating Donald Truka of Bucyrus who braved the winter roads to visit his sweetheart every chance he could. Pauline and Donald were married November 29, 1947 after his discharge from the service. He preceded her in death in November 1998.

After working at North Electric, Pauline happily became a homemaker after her marriage, raising her son and enjoying her neighbors in Bucyrus. She kept a very tidy home and stayed up to date on current events by watching the news and talking on the phone with friends. Pauline was crafty and incorporated her unique collection of costume jewelry into different pieces. She enjoyed decorating and being a hostess for holidays and maintained a close connection with her sister and mother by planning family gatherings. A lifelong Catholic, Pauline was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Bucyrus. She will be remembered for her consistency and readiness to help others.

Pauline is survived by her granddaughter, Lesley (Gary) Lawson of Bucyrus; great grandsons, Alex and Luke Lawson; daughter-in-law, Jean (Robert) Hunter of Galion; and a number of cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband of nearly 51 years, Donald E. Truka, Pauline is preceded in death by her son, Larry Michael Truka; sister, Mary Alice Gibson; and brothers-in-law, William Truka and Ralph Gibson.

Pauline’s family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Service on Friday, March 28 from 4-7 p.m. with a Rosary service concluding the evening at 7 p.m. A Funeral Prayer Service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. John Miller officiating and burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Galion.
