Paul Stinehelfer

Paul D. Stinehelfer, 74, of Bucyrus died Saturday afternoon, December 5, 2015 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus with his children nearby after several weeks of failing health.

He was born August 30, 1941 in Bucyrus to the late Mike and Barb (Holt) Stinehelfer. He graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1959 and was retired from Swan Rubber Co.

Paul will be remembered best for his love of old cars and what most might consider “junk.” He was an honest and hardworking man who lived to tinker and had a wealth of knowledge he was willing to share with anyone. He looked forward to getting together with fellow “Eliminators” Car Club members and was the man to see if you needed a part for a car. He had an easygoing personality, often offering the comforting words, “It’s OK, we can fix it." Paul enjoyed driving his old cars and his favorite trip was to California along Route 66 which was quite an adventure for him.

Paul is survived by five children, Doug (Terry) Stinehelfer, Jodi (Mike) Wappelhorst, Teri Slate (Lee Haefer), Brian Gilmore, and Todd (Tiffany) Gilmore; 13 grandchildren, Amy (Matt), Sean, John, Nicole, Chris, Heather, Shawn, Andy (Danielle), Justin, Myranda, Zack, Anna, and Jackson; three great grandchildren, Reed, Logan, and Lelani; three siblings, Dixie (Don) Striker, Mike (Deb) Stinehelfer, and Norris (Barb) Stinehelfer; his children’s mothers, Patricia Sherman and Kathy Laughbaum; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by an infant son, Todd Allen; infant grandson, Matthew Todd; significant other, Millie Logan; and siblings, Ivan Stinehelfer and Jenny Miller.

A gathering for friends and family to celebrate Paul’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 9 from 2-6 pm at Trillium Event Center, 1630 East Southern in Bucyrus where, at 3:00, Paul will be remembered with favorite stories and a tribute revving of engines. Contributions are encouraged to be given to the Eliminators Car Club (for charitable distribution) or American Heart Association through Wise Funeral Service of Bucyrus. Paul’s cremated remains will be scattered on a later date.

Memories and photos can be shared on Paul’s Tribute Wall at www.wisefuneral.com.
