Paul D. Vinson, 75, of Bucyrus, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Altercare of Bucyrus.
He was born March 27, 1937 in Greenbrier, Tenn. to the late Davie and Vada (Ragland) Vinson. As a young child his family moved to the area and Paul attended various schools in the Bucyrus area. He was a good natured individual with a solid work ethic. While working at Cussins and Fearn Hardware Co., Paul was convinced to ask out a co-worker, Sharon Gobrecht. On March 16, 1959 they married and have been fortunate to share many experiences in their 53 years of marriage.
Paul believed in providing for his family. He spent 35 plus years at Swan Rubber where he left his mark as a maintenance supervisor. He was strongly relied upon for his ability to repair things and seeing that his department was efficiently organized.
In addition to his wife Sharon, Paul is survived by his children, Laura Browning of Marion, Keith (Judy Watts) Vinson of Bucyrus and Gary (Beth) Vinson of rural Bucyrus; grandchildren, Heidi (Ayers) Ratliff, David (Talisha) Light, Adrianna and Joshua Light, Daniel, Sarah and Lauren Vinson, Jordan and Joellyn Weaver, Jessica (Kyle) Bosworth, Barbara and Samantha Vinson; seven great grandchildren, Dustin and Del Edler, Annie Ratliff, David Light, Jr., Zander Light and Braedon and Sophia Bosworth. Also surviving are siblings, Edward (Bessie) Vinson of Bucyrus and Wanda (Tom) Riley of Lexington. Paul is preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Barbara Vinson.
Family was most important to Paul especially his grandchildren but close behind was a peanut butter sandwich and his daily nap. He enjoyed following his Indianapolis Colts but also loved watching sports of any kind. He and Sharon had the privilege of traveling to Europe, Hawaii as well as several states. Many of these trips were with longtime friends, Ilse and Merle Raymond. In past years, Paul enjoyed bowling, relaxing to the Three Stooges or The Red Skelton Show and throughout his entire life, he loved making people smile through his various jokes or pranks, even if he was the recipient.
The Vinsons thank everyone who provided care and compassion for Paul, especially Judy Watts who not only helped Paul but also his family.
The Vinson family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon Monday, December 31 at Wise Funeral Service and funeral services will follow at 12 Noon with Rev. Donald Lambert, pastor of the Sharon Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
